I have had this case for just under two months. Yesterday I noticed a little crumb of silicone missing from the bottom corner of the case, which must have occurred during very normal use. Today I dropped my phone a few feet onto a wood floor and the top corner of the phone popped out of the case, taking a big chunk of silicone with it. The phone is fine, but will the case protect it in future falls? This was my first time buying an Apple-brand case, because previous models didn't wrap all the way around and I didn't trust that they would protect if a fall hit the bottom of the phone, but I expected this new model to be high-quality especially given the price.
Now I think I need to go back to other case brands, which have always been both durable and protective in my over 10 years of owning iPhones. Until the case started falling apart I was very happy with it, because it's comfortable to hold and the buttons are easy to press.
Color: Plum Verified Purchase. Cons: - Price, a bit pricey; - New technology, so not a lot of accessories to go with MagSafe back; - It has a strong chemical scent, that I strongly believe it will go away with time. Pros: - Extremely high quality; - Plum color is much more beautiful in person than in the picture; - Very protective of phone; - Slim profile; - Multiple possibilities for connections using the MagSafe, I can't wait to see what they come up with as a car charging mount; - Very soft yet easy to grip, feels nice in hand; - It reminds me of the leather apple cases with that like-suede interior, very soft;.
Trying and testing many cases for the iPhone 12 I find this one to be okay at best. It has decent tactility but catches lint way too quick. My major gripe with this case no pun intended is how easily the phone slips out of the case, exposing corners and shimmer of the stainless steel pro. Taking into account the price of this case and what you are receiving, the price point is way too much for the value you are getting. You can spend a fraction of the price and obtain a similar experience minus an animation or apple logo.
TLDR: Okay at best, price simply makes it an option to disregard in comparison to other cases on the market. Color: Deep Navy Verified Purchase. It feels like baby skin. But after using it for a day, I'm going to return it. It's MUCH too slippery. Also, fabric sticks to it, leaving it with lint and looking nasty see picture. Really disappointed, frankly. Junk, the edges are breaking off. Apple is giving me the run around to replace under warranty. I am very careful with my phone but for some reason Apple decided to put sharpe edges on the 12 so it literally cuts the case.
I am losing respect for them. We have had other companies replace items that cost a fraction of the price without questions because they care. Apple is making plenty of money on a silicone case to replace it if it tears apart in less than two months.
We will be shying away from any Apple accessories. For this price you can buy 3 cases that will probably each last 3 times as long. This case does not hold iPhone at around the screen edges. If the phone falls, the case easily allows phone edges to get out and be scraped by the fall. This is epic fail by Apple design team. It is loose and phone easily slips out of the case edges. It wasn't designed to be useful for these phones, but rather the iPhone This is just a nice benefit.
Unfortunately, it does not charge our Apple Watch. Apple Watch still uses a proprietary charging method that is based around Qi, but is not compatible. The second MagSafe accessory Apple released is an upgraded version of its silicone cases. They have the same feel as before, and the same physical makeup, just a new shape.
Unlike OtterBox, which simply glued a MagSafe-compatible insert into their cases and called it a day, Apple sandwiches the magnets in between the case's back panel and microfiber lining. To designate the MagSafe location, the inside of the case has a plastic indicator that looks like a sticker.
Do not try to peel it off Aside from the ring in the center, there is an additional magnet array at in the six o'clock position which is used for alignment. The MagSafe charger doesn't utilize this piece, but it is necessary for accessories like wallets that need to be correctly orientated on the handset to function. Since we don't have our iPhone 12 yet, we can't test charging the phone.
We can, however, test connecting the MagSafe puck to our case. One of the most-asked questions was regarding the strength of MagSafe's magnets. At least to the case, the attraction is substantial but not overpowering. When you lift your phone off the table, the charger will for sure be taken along. This can be good if you want to charge while holding your phone, but bad if you always want to disconnect as it requires two hands. Of course, there will soon be a slew of MagSafe chargers like stands, docks and other stationary designs.
We put a dummy iPhone 12 into the case and were able to let it dangle without either the phone or case coming free. A vigorous shake did break the bond. Based on early looks, it seems that there will be a slightly stronger connection when a real iPhone 12 is present. Another question we heard was whether or not the puck had to be facing any certain way. The puck can, in fact, rotate but not too easily. It doesn't have a fixed orientation, but the silicone-on-silicone creates enough grip to prevent free rotation.
This is great because you can have the cable positioned at any angle. These accessories are a great first start and we will continue to test them and some other early third-party accessories in the coming days, especially when we get our hands on the new iPhone There's been some discussion as to whether or not MagSafe will be iPhone 12's killer feature, and regardless of where you stand on the matter, chances are you will eventually have some form of MagSafe accessory.
