In order for it to work, sellers must provide proof of item delivery. Experienced scammers know this and may take advantage of sellers that are unaware of this additional burden of proof requirement.
They can claim the item was not received, claim a refund and make off with the expensive item. A buyer happily purchases your item. Once payment is confirmed you ship it promptly. In this scam, the buyer then accuses you of sending a damaged item. They may even provide photos of the broken item. Unfortunately for you, the item is a replica of the one you sent.

There is one more scam that I have had to deal with. A buyer from Europe orders at item and pays for it. I then pack it and send it to E bays Global Shipping in Kentucky and send the tracking number to the buyer.
He immediately cancels the order and requests a refund. Luckily I was able to contact the Global center and stop the item from shipping to the buyer. The buyer then tried to repeat that same scam several times. Another issue that is unfair to sellers is when eBay calculates the exact shipping costs, but still takes a fee, leaving the seller to make up that loss.
E bay is now forcing sellers to buy their shipping labels at a higher cost and still making a lot of money from it. E bay in many cases are making more profit than the sellers. All such complaints from sellers are simply ignored, as profit takes precedence over reason. A buyer tried to scam me out of a pair of boots, Ebay alerted me that someone purchased my boots, and I was excited, so I checked to see if Ebay sent another alert stating the item was paid, and ship It.
So, I purchased the shipping label the cost was Zero money was left over. Ebay always takes out the fees and send the remaining money to the Bank on file. So, I cancel the order and sent in a statement. Other platforms I never had a problem with over 6 years. Please Help! She is moving to Chicago to avoid painful memories and she put the car in ebay motors they will contact me.. She has free shipping as part of the deal. Now I received eBay buyers protection plan email and they are asking me to go buy multiple eBay gift cards to pay for it.
I feel suspicious now. Cheaper seller scam: I have multiple people selling my exclusive product for less that I sell it for on Ebay. I manufacture them myself and sell for only one price. I know the cheaper sellers are scammers because I do not sell wholesale or at any cheaper price.
How do they sell my exclusive manufactured trademarked product for lees than I do?? They receive an eBay order for my product, selling at a discount to undercut me, and receive payment. They then go to Etsy and order the item from me at full price using a suspect credit card number. Etsy then accepts payment at full price and authorizes the order, then pays me the full price and I ship the order. Everyone is covered except the credit card holder, whoever that is.
Here are some of the most common eBay scams for eBay buyers: 1. Non-delivery scam An eBay money-back guarantee protects buyers from fraudulent sellers, save for some exclusions. Seller ships with deliberately incorrect name on label This scam is clever because the deceit occurs offline after the eBay transaction is complete. The empty box scam This is a scam to watch for if you are looking for a highly popular item that is generating a lot of media attention, has a limited release, or is difficult to get elsewhere.
Counterfeit goods The downside of buying online is that there is no way to verify the authenticity of the goods before you buy them. Fake customer service Similar to the above scam, a fraudulent seller can place a fake Ebay customer service number on their profile or product page.

Frugal living blog SquawkFox has a few suggestions for dealing with the unfortunate problem of being scammed by an eBay buyer. First, you're going to need to contact the seller and try to resolve things yourself as eBay will not help you if you do not do this. Assuming that fails, you're going to want to report the problem to eBay , as well as PayPal if that's how you paid , so everything is official and the long resolution process can begin.
Make sure you do this within 45 days of payment and also be sure your purchase is covered by eBay's buyer protection policies. Ideally you'd have done this before buying, but it's an easy thing to forget about. In the event eBay is useless in resolving the issue, as they often can be, you'll want to contact your credit card company or bank. Paying through PayPal using a credit card is almost always ideal because it's easier to have the charges blocked. If you used a debit card the money's likely gone, but sometimes your bank can still help you and it's worth making the call.
If that fails, you can always contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center that one's for America, here's one for Canada. Like with most theft, it's unlikely you're going to recover anything if it comes to this but that doesn't mean you shouldn't report the scammer to help the next person.
Additionally, don't forget to leave negative feedback on their account and post about them online. Opened and inside junk adapter worth about 10 cents. Found out later that seller had sent out this to me on Aug 30 which closed ebays item not received!!!
I told them I was going to file on Paypal since it was past 45 days which is the ebay guarantee date. Called eBay they told me to close case and open not as described. And in 10 days they would escalate and I would get a refund. Sep 10th Ebay closed the case because I had one open in Paypal.
Told me too bad sucker Sep 11th escalated in paypal, seller had filled that I need to return the item and they need to approve the refund. Wow what a scam. So I was expected to pay for shipping of 10 cent item and wait 30 days!!! No support from ebay they don't care Brushed it off and said they will file it somewhere but won't update me.
Go to Solution. A tracking number is Seller Protection. It is used by the seller to disprove an Item Not Received dispute. No tracking? Buyer wins Dispute. Techically eBay wants you to wait until the last estimated date for delivery before opening a Dispute. You have only 30 days the last estimated date for delivery or actual delivery to open a Dispute, and then another 30 days to resolve it. The refund is supposed to come from the seller not eBay, although eBay will refund a buyer and go after the seller for their money.
This is to prevent double-dipping. Another reason to complete the eBay Dispute. EBay demands that the seller send return shipping if he wants the item back. Paypal puts the onus on the buyer. But you are also covered by the chargeback policy of the credit card you back your PP account with.
And when the second purchase does not arrive, open the eBay dispute, do not close it until you have your money back. It's slow and annoying, but the system is set up to help honest members, including both buyers like you and sellers like me. View solution in original post. So far nothing from Paypal, the seller was asking me to return the junk item to them and then after 45 days I'm lucky if I get anything back. The problem is with eBay - they never communicated to me that the seller had added a tracking number the date that the refund was suppose to happen.
EBay rep had assured me not to worry I would get my money back, in days on Aug 26th. Because of this assurance I bought another phone exact same, otherwise I would have had to return all the accessories to legitimate eBay sellers. When the junk package arrived I knew I was scammed, eBay was doing nothing telling me now it was a 'Not as described' instead and to close the case and reopen it under the new reason, wait 10 days to escalate allowing the seller SCAM ARTIST to keep my money.
I opened the Paypal claim because under their policy 45 days I cannot get a refund and I always thought the 2 worked closely together and I wanted to be sure I would get a refund. They have offered nothing, no way to help and nothing in return for the countless hours and extra costs I have incurred because of eBay lying to me.
They feel no guilt about that and have offered me nothing in compensation for all this. This is hurtful because I originally had a lot of trust in buying on eBay but now I see how it goes. I want others to hopefully not get caught up in this type of scam. Thanks for the tag reallynicestamps - that was fairly comprehensive. Hi discoveryvp - I'm sorry to hear about such a frustrating transaction.
The vast majority of the sellers on our site like Stamps just above are honest and work very hard to get you the item you're looking for at a good price in a timely manner. However, when things don't work out, you have options available to you through a variety of sources - the main one is the eBay Money Back Guarantee, which allows you 30 days from the estimated delivery date or the actual delivery date to notify the seller there's an issue.
You did the right thing to open a Not Received request initially, as you hadn't gotten the item yet. When you received an item that wasn't as described closing the Not Received request was the proper course of action since you had received something. The Not as Described request would have covered your situation. However, because you opened a separate dispute with PayPal, that superseded our authority and the closure of your eBay return request was the right thing to do.
I hope that your PayPal dispute works out in your favor and you get your full money back. If you do run into a similar situation in the future please don't hesitate to contact Customer Support before you open a request with us. We're always happy to give you advice on the best way forward to a resolution for you! I bought the second phone from a different seller and paid for fast shipping.
I was getting the phone to give as a gift so had already purchased other accessories for that model. No choice but to buy same type of phone or I would have to return items on legitimate sellers. Plus eBay had assured me I would get my money back in days on Aug 26th. I believed eBay which was the problem and reason for me spending more money in this mess.
Yes lots of red flags but did not know what to do. I spoke to eBay Aug 12 and explained that the seller was likely scamming me. They confirmed all the lies in the messages and told me nothing can be done until the item does not arrive, then to file a complaint and I will get refunded if it does not arrive. Another misleading statement by eBay.
